Migratory birds have arrived

The birds, that spent time in Honshu, come to Lake Furan every year.  At first, Whooper Swans come in the early March, and they stay until the end of April when they leave for Sakhalin.  In addition, a large number of ducks and gulls come to Lake Furen.  The peak of the coming birds is from the end of March to the beginning of April.  More than 20,000 birds visit Lake Furen.  5,000 birds also visit the Shunkunitai area.  You can see them eating water plants.

The spring-heralding storm and flower blossoming.

The bloom of the Adonis amurensis can be seen in the middle of March.  Its color is bright gold and makes you calm and comfortable.  The woods next to The Nature Center is one of the best places to see the colony.  At the height of the season, Adonis amurensis is all around there.  The light blue Corydalis ambigua and the yellow Gagea lutea blossom after the Adonis amurensis.  The woods are covered with their spring colors.

Crane return

From the end of March to the beginning of April, Japanese Cranes that have passed the winter in Akin and Turui come back to their birthplace in Nemuro.  The seashore with the left float, lakeshore where the ice has not melted yet, you can see crane feeding.  They start holding their territory as a pair, making a nest, laying eggs and raising their babies.  They are very nervous at this time.  Please do not follow or startle them.
